Those "tips" aren't tips — they're interest. See the true APR of cash advance apps.
Add your subscriptions and see the real monthly drain. Most people underestimate by 2–3x.
The real cost of a purchase isn't the price tag. It's what you gave up to get it — your time, your savings, your options. We exist to make that exchange visible before you commit.
When you hand over money, you're not just buying a thing. You're trading hours of your life. If you earn $20/hour after taxes, that $60 takeout order cost you 3 hours of work. Not 60 dollars — three hours you'll never get back.
But your brain doesn't frame it that way. Your brain sees the food, smells the food, wants the food. The exchange — the real cost — stays invisible. That's not a character flaw. That's how every advertisement, every storefront, every "limited time offer" is designed to work.
The gap between what something costs to make and what you pay for it isn't a rounding error. A $5 coffee uses about $0.35 worth of beans. A $2 bottle of water costs $0.02 to produce. None of these are traps by themselves — the trap is not knowing the ratio.
Five free tools. No account required. No data stored. Just clarity.
When a tool recommends a high-yield savings account and you open one, we earn a referral fee. Disclosed at every recommendation.
Our tools run in your browser. Your financial numbers never touch our servers. We literally can't sell what we don't have.
We only earn when you make a decision that genuinely helps you. If you don't act, we don't get paid. That's by design.
Real talk about money, traps, and the numbers they never show you.
Deferred interest isn't the same as no interest. Here's exactly how they design it to trap you.
Cash advance apps call it a "tip." Your bank would call it interest. Here's the annualized math.
You miss one $50 Afterpay installment. By the time it resolves, you've paid $50+ in fees. Here's the math.
The average American underestimates their subscription spend by 2–3x. Status quo bias is why.
"If it expires in 48 hours, it was never a good deal." The psychology behind our most contrarian feature.
PadSplit vs. a studio apartment — all fees included. The gap might surprise you.

We built Spot The Dot so your financial numbers never leave your browser. This policy explains exactly what we collect, what we don't, and why.
Our tools run entirely in your browser. We never see your loan amounts, purchase prices, income, or any financial numbers you enter. We use Google Analytics to count visitors and improve the site. We don't sell data. We don't run ads. We earn through affiliate links — and we disclose every one.

Every financial calculation runs entirely in your web browser using client-side JavaScript. Your numbers are never transmitted to our servers, stored in any database, or accessible to us in any form. When you close the browser tab, your data disappears completely.
We cannot retrieve, reconstruct, or access any financial information you enter into our tools. This is by design — not an afterthought.
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site. GA4 collects: pages visited and time spent, device type, browser, and operating system, approximate geographic region (country/state level), and referral source (how you found us). GA4 does not collect your financial inputs. GA4 retains anonymized analytics data for 14 months by default. You may opt out using Google's Analytics Opt-out tool.
We use only essential and analytics cookies. We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. GA4 sets a first-party analytics cookie (_ga) that expires after 2 years. No financial data is stored in any cookie.
Some tools recommend financial products (high-yield savings accounts, housing platforms). If you click through and open an account, we earn a referral fee. This is our primary revenue source and is disclosed at the point of every recommendation. When you click an affiliate link, you leave spotthedot.app and enter the partner's site. Their privacy policy governs from that point. We do not share any of your data with affiliate partners.
If you voluntarily subscribe to our mailing list, we collect your email address to send financial education content. We use SendGrid to manage delivery. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email. We never sell, rent, or share your email address.
Our site is served over HTTPS (enforced by the .app TLD). We use Netlify's global CDN with automatic SSL and built-in DDoS protection. Our static architecture means there is no database to breach — your financial data never exists on our servers in the first place.
Spot The Dot is not directed at individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected data from a minor, we will delete it promptly.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to: access the data we hold about you (primarily: your email address, if subscribed); delete your data by unsubscribing and requesting deletion via [email protected]; opt out of analytics tracking via Google's opt-out tool; and withdraw consent for email at any time.
Georgia residents: Georgia has considered comprehensive consumer data privacy legislation (most recently SB 111, 2025 session). That bill did not pass the House and no such law is currently enacted as of March 15, 2026. We will update this policy to reflect any new requirements as they take effect.
In the event of a data breach affecting personal information (email addresses of subscribers), Spot The Dot, LLC will:
Because our tools process financial data exclusively on the client side, a server-side breach cannot expose any financial information entered into our tools.
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. Material changes will be announced via a notice on our homepage and/or by email to subscribers. The "Last Updated" date at the top will always reflect the current version.
